Victor Barden: Music

Come Unto Me

(Victor Barden)
LYRICS:
Walking through your life under a heavy load,
Trying to be holy on your own.
There’s no way you can walk along that narrow road
With the weight from all that shame keeping you down.
So Jesus says,

CHORUS:
“Come unto Me, ye that labor and are heavy laden.
Come unto Me, and I’ll give you rest.
Come unto Me, ye that labor and are heavy laden.
Come unto Me, and I’ll give you rest.”

God has promised everyone who comes to Him,
And there are no exceptions mentioned here,
That He is always with us, no matter where we go;
He will not forsake, nor will He leave,
And Jesus says,

CHORUS

”Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me,
For I am meek and lowly of heart.
Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me,
And ye shall find rest unto your souls.”

If you find yourself under a heavy load,
And nothing that you do will turn out right,
At the feet of Jesus lay your burden down
And take upon yourself His burden of light,
For Jesus says,

CHORUS

STORY: I was strumming the guitar one day, and I think it was on a Sunday in 1989 or 1990, when the chord pattern of the chorus came to me. The words to the chorus and bridge are from Matthew 11:28-30, so they were easy to write. The verses came about seven years later.
