Victor Barden: Music

These Times Are Sent to Try Us All

(Victor Barden)
I was having one of those workdays when you want to bang your head into the concrete when the Lord gave me the beginnings of this song and told me it was set to that drop D tuning thing I had been playing with for a while.
You’re keeping it true with everything you do,
But you don’t seem to get anywhere,
And then you see some fool breaking every rule,
But he’s a millionaire.
You got slowpokes, speeders, Enquirer readers,
People who write bad checks.
You got idiots, know-it-alls, and
Chauvinist pigs of the opposite sex. Yeah, yeah!

CHO: There are plenty of things to complain about if we really wanted to,
So go to the Lord and let it out if that’s what you’ve got to do.
He has set it up so into every life some rain must fall.
No need to fret — hey, don’t forget these times are sent to try us all.

It’s another hassle keeping up my castle,
Another plan that goes awry,
Another messed up deal, a nut behind the wheel,
Another time when I could die.
Another tinker’s damn, another traffic jam,
Another system goes kaput.
Another crazy day that didn’t go my way,
Another pain up with which to put. Yeah, yeah!

LEAD BREAK

You think you’ve reached that mountain peak,
But then you see it over there.
You somehow slip from the lion’s grip,
But then you run into a bear.
You got I-eyed geeks and religious freaks
That are always on your back.
I need to take break for goodness’ sake or
I’m gonna have a heart attack! Yeah, yeah!
