Victor Barden: Music
The Angels Know
(Victor Barden)
Anyone who knows me well knows that I talk to myself a LOT. Sometimes I forget there are other people around and just go into a monologue, so there are many who think Vic suffers from mental illness, but that’s not true — I enjoy it! (Apologies and acknowledgments to Joe McCord.) The French refer to this phenomenon as parler aux anges — “talking to the angels.”
The angels know just about all of my secrets ‘cause I’ve told them all about a thousand times.
The angels know all the trouble I have gone to just to find a single word that rhymes.
Yes, they know all about the things that I can do without in my life.
And they know every rev. of everything I’ve ever said to my wife.
CHORUS: But God only knows, but God only knows,
But God only knows what’s really going on.
The angels know all the meaningless intensives that I’ve said while venting in the car.
The angels know all the things that I’ve forgotten that I said when I was living at the bar.
Yes, Gabriel and Michael have heard every cycle I’ve been through,
And they’ve heard every word that has come from not knowing what to do.
CHORUS
God knows the how, and He knows the why,
And He knows the reason for every time I cry.
He knows how I am and how that came to be,
And He knows what He’s going to do to set me free.
The angels know all the heated conversations that I’ve had with people who weren’t there.
The angels know every sermon that I’ve given at the church of whatever’s in the air.
