Victor Barden: Music
Child of the King
(Victor Barden)
LYRICS:
CHORUS:
I’m a child of the King!
I’m a son of His grace.
I am a born-again, blood-bought member of His holy race.
No longer ashamed.
There’s no more disgrace.
Now let all the angels sing that I’m a child of the King!
I was born in sin; I was its slave.
Sin had its hold on me.
I could only look forward to my grave;
That was my destiny,
But Jesus’ blood at Calvary
Has washed away my sin.
Now I can boldly sing that I’m a child of the King.
CHORUS
The narrow way’s not an easy way.
The hill I must climb is steep.
I have to do it day by day,
As His commandments I keep,
But the grave will have no victory,
And death will have no sting,
‘Cause I am coming forth as a child of the King!
CHORUS
I must be about my Father’s business everywhere I go.
I must let His love flow through me, that everyone can know
That
CHORUS
TAG:
Now let all the angels sing that I’m a child of the King — Yeah!
STORY: This song was one of my later ones. The hook came during a ride I took with my wife and stepson during which we played a CD with another swinging song in G. The rest of the song came relatively quickly after that.
While I was recording I could see that my usual background choir of me, myself, and I wasn't going to cut it on this song. It needed a full-range choir backup with actual women singing soprano and alto. A total of 12 people from my home church joined me in the studio on June 11, 2001, to put that part on tape. I sang bass with my hand cupped to my ear so I could hear myself; I am certainly not a bass, but they were the ones who needed me most.
