Victor Barden: Music
Love Your Brother Man
(Victor Barden)
LYRICS:
CHORUS:
Love your brother man
And help him to understand
The way of love.
(repeat)
Lots of angry people making war,
They don’t even remember what they’re doing it for.
Wo, don’t you know there is a way to get over this woe.
Wo-oo-oh, don’t you know there is a way,
Only one way,
Only one way.
CHORUS
Brothers and sisters,
We must be
Loving to each other
In God’s family.
Wo, don’t you know the world needs to see us love one another.
Wo-oo-oh, don’t you know it’s the only way.
There’s only one way.
Only one way.
CHORUS
STORY: The chord pattern came while I was playing an organ sound on my keyboard to one of the stock rhythms on my drum machine. I originally wrote it in F, but I quickly saw that key would be too high, so at first I played it in E-flat. As much as I liked the sound of that key it was still too high for a whole song, so I moved it down to D-flat and then modulated up in half-steps at the end.
The lyrics just seemed to fit the spirit of the music. It's interesting that when the hippies started to turn from everything about the establishment, including God, they began to emphasize loving one another — where did that idea come from?
