Victor Barden: Music

Fear Not

(Victor Barden)
LYRICS:
Moses and the children of Israel
Were on their way to Egypt’s land,
And things were going very well
When Pharaoh had his twentieth change of heart,
And he wondered what possessed him to be such a wimp
And let all of those brick-makers depart,
So he tracked down the children of Israel to the Red Sea,
And all of a sudden when they looked around,
This is what the Israelites could see:
They had the Red Sea in the front; Pharaoh’s army was behind,
A mountain on the left and a mountain on the right.
It was too far to swim; there was no place to hide.
They wouldn’t stand a chance if they tried to stand and fight.
The people said, “Why did that fool Moses lead us here?
At least in Egypt we could stay alive!
This wilderness is no place to take a dive!”
But Moses had already heard the word from the Lord,
And when the people started to complain,
He was able to stand the strain,
And Moses said,

CHORUS
“Fear not! Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord.
Fear not! Stand still and see the salvation of our God.”

God is still the same as He was back then.
He cares as much for His people today
As He did for Israel’s children.
When it seems all your enemies have greatly increased,
Just remember that the Lord will fight for you
And you will hold your peace,
And you will

CHORUS

STORY: I wrote this song in January 1999, shortly after listening to a reggae band on New Year's Eve. The lyrics were inspired by a message from David Wilkerson based on this same passage, Exodus 14:1-14.
